Company History
GAGFAH was founded on August 14, 1918 as GAGFAH Gemeinnützige Aktien-Gesellschaft für Angestellten-Heimstätten by salaried employees' associations in Berlin. In 1990, the nonprofit-making character was discontinued. In 2004, the Fortress Investment Group LLC acquired GAGFAH from BfA for c. 3.5 billion Euros in a structured tendering procedure.
Tenant Protection
As a result of the GAGFAH SOCIAL CHARTER tenants enjoy comprehensive - and in Germany exemplary - tenant protection rights. The Charter which came into force on September 30, 2004 with the acquisition of GAGFAH by the new shareholder Fortress, applies to all tenants who held a lease contract for a GAGFAH owned apartment on that day. Today, the Charter is considered to be a yardstick for tenant protection and a standard for socially acceptable business operations in the housing industry.
