A Trainee's Day
Applicants should enjoy communicating and have a teamwork capability if they wish to successfully start their working life with us via training as a business professional in the land and property sector.
Your training schedule covers everything in the field of the purchase, administration, rental, modernization and building of residential property. The trainees learn at a very early stage, however, that, alongside important management matters, the customer is always the focus. We peeped over the shoulders of Habib, Katharina, Nadine, Magda and Marc - five trainees at our Essen branch. A day in the working life of GAGFAH trainees.
9.30 a.m.
Habib is still a little tired. Yesterday's training program really took it out of this amateur football-player. But Habib has scarcely arrived in the office when he wakes up completely. The telephone is ringing - the first call of the day!
"Habib Kaya, GAGFAH, Essen. Good morning!". At the other end of the line is a student in his first term who is looking for accommodation. He has found the offers made by www.eigenebude.de in the Internet and has already studied the details there. The conversation runs well and the student is interested. "Fine. So let's make an appointment for a viewing!" An open goal! Habib now only needs to close the deal.
10.15 a.m.
Katharina has found the documents she needs: one room, kitchen, shower, bath. Ideal for a single person, ideal, in fact, for her prospective tenant. The two go through everything again, in order to be able to provide comprehensive information on everything on-the-spot. Katharina has already been present at many viewings and knows the apartment-seekers' wishes and questions. Katharina thinks, "Isn't this the place that Nadine furnished out?" Habib nods. That's just what it is.
11.00 a.m.
Today, Nadine is working next-door, updating the Homepage with Magda. New tenants have been found for three apartments, and two vacant units have been added. Magda has a suggestion: "What about including the club we visited at the weekend as a link on the page? As a "just round the corner" tip." Nadine concurs: "Great idea! It was really good there".
Then Nadine's telephone rings.
It's Habib: "Nadine, we may have someone interested in your apartment!" "My apartment? And where am I supposed to live?", she jokes. "No, not your apartment "I mean the one in the Friedrichstrasse, that you furnished". Nadine remembers. She had picked out the bathroom, and selected the colour of the tiles. In a way, it really is her apartment.
12.00 noon
Marc drops in on Katharina. He has switched to property production as a trainee a few weeks ago. "I had a word with my trainer. You can come with me to the site if you want and have a look at the new project". Katharina agrees, and quickly tells Habib. He meets Magda on the stairs. Magda would also like to go. "Let's meet up at the front entrance after the lunch break, OK?" OK. "Shall we go and eat together first?" Also OK.
1.45 p.m.
The trainees meet as agreed and get into the company car. Then - off to the site. Magda is excited: "It's great when you see something growing". Mark agrees. He has already seen the final phases of the planning: "It's different to just seeing an address on a piece of paper". Being there while new living space is created, from the very start - Marc can scarcely imagine anything more exciting.
2.30 p.m.
The builders protest. There are young people climbing all over the scaffolding without helmets! Hesitantly, Katharina dons the important head protector. "Suits you!" affirms Nadine. All of them suspect that they themselves do not look particularly more elegant wearing the plastic "hard hat". Habib: "Essen, two-thirty - coiffure ruined!" And Katharina is forced to smile again.
Magda is impressed: "It's gigantic!" The enormous cranes, the high scaffolding. Innumerable residential units are growing into existence on this major site. Mark has the plans with him and shows his fellow trainees how the finished product will look
The GAGFAH site manager is also there and explains details: "Would you like to see how the building skeleton looks?" Of course they would!
3.30 p.m.
Just a few streets further on, there really is more to see. Marc has already been here in the past week and gives Nadine a guided tour of the empty rooms. Everything is still extremely sparse. Nadine turns, looks around and thinks aloud.
"Let me see....., I'd have the couch corner here, here the dining table. And the bathroom....", "She's already planning the furnishings" thinks Marc. He turns up his eyes in play. And then Nadine herself realizes: "OK, OK! Then let's go back to the other building ". They descend the stairs laughing.
5.30 p.m.
Back at the branch office. Habib and Katharina have to leave again immediately. They have an appointment with a potential tenant in half-an-hour. It's quicker by subway, there are traffic jams in the streets.
Magda sits down again in front of the PC. The Homepage must be kept up-to-date. Nadine now has a visit from a customer - she has permission to advise him. Marc ponders over the building plans. Just another hour, then work is over for the day. He started very early today, Flexitime makes it possible. But he's not going home just yet .
7.30 p.m.
"How was the appointment?", Nadine wants to know. "Fine, the student wants to take the apartment!" enthuses Katharina. She and Habib have returned, their fellow trainees are already waiting in the café around the corner. They're finished for today. As on every Wednesday, they meet here at five. It's an excellent place to chat about work. And other things, of course. Marc and Habib are talking about football. Habib has his sports bag with him and must go off to his training in a few minutes.
"Not football again!" thinks Nadine and looks around. The café is really not badly furnished. Magda: "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" Nadine nods: "Let's put that on the Homepage as a tip tomorrow!"
